World Earth Day is commemorated as a day to make the human race be aware of the importance of our environment. Although some view #EarthDay as a tribute to Mother Nature, others see it as a time to reflect on and help preserve the health of the planet. Fortunately, there are several ways to celebrate #EarthDay. As people engage in things like forestation, sanitation of the environment, maintenance of the earth natural assets and what have you; so as to sustain a healthy life on earth.
This year, the theme for #EarthDay 2016 is “Trees for the Earth” and the goal is to plant 7.8 billion trees, worldwide, over the next five years as Earth Day moves closer to its 50th anniversary.
Trees are the source of nature’s best-known gift to mankind. They are beautiful and useful gifts of nature, most especially to humans and animals. They are the main resource which gives us full support to having a long life.
Imagine what life would be if there were no trees... No trees to provide fruits, timber, bamboo, fuels, shelter and most especially carbon dioxide. This is why I believe that no human can survive without a tree on earth as they are the backbone of mankind.
Importance of Trees to Man
Trees are like the lungs of the earth. As we release carbon and take oxygen from the air, they breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen into the air, which makes equilibrium in the environment that we live in.
For thousands of years, tree products have been an important part of diets to humans as they provide us with fruits that are very nutritious to the body.
Trees help cleanse the air by intercepting airborne particles, reducing heat, and absorbing such pollutants as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide.
Trees provide shelter for many species of animals including man. People grow timber in order to produce wood which overtime has been used during house construction.
Trees play a significant role in reducing erosion and moderating the climate. They remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store large quantities of carbon in their tissues.
In some part of Africa today, fire wood which is gotten from trees can be used in cooking. Although it may be the only fuel available for cooking in rural area, as against the developed areas where fuel is available. Nonetheless, fire wood food tends to have better taste than any other.
Thus, #EarthDay on tree is extremely important and has more value on improving the human condition. Ensure to promote a better understanding of the importance and maintenance of the earth.
