– This medicine has been prescribed for you. Do not pass it on to others. It may harm them, even if their symptoms are the same as yours.

1. WHAT CORDCARE GEL IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Cordcare Gel is an antibacterial. It prevents umbilical cord infections and used only in newborn babies.

2. BEFORE YOU USE CORDCARE GEL
Do not use Cordcare Gel
– If allergic to chlorhexidine or any of the other ingredients of Cordcare Gel.
Take special care with Cordcare Gel
This medicine should only be applied to the umbilical cord stump and the skin around the base of the umbilical cord.
Do not swallow this medicine. Keep safe from eyes and ears. If it goes into the eyes, wash out with clean water.
Immediately stop using Cordcare Gel and seek medical advice if your baby has any of the signs of a severe allergic reaction: raised and itchy rash (hives); swelling sometimes of the face or mouth; difficulty in breathing; and collapse or loss of consciousness.
Seek medical advice immediately if your baby has redness or skin irritation around the umbilical cord when using Cordcare Gel.
Cordcare Gel may cause a condition called methemoglobinemia (a blood disorder).
Immediately stop using Cordcare Gel and seek medical advice if your baby has blue nails, skin, tongue, or lips.
Use carefully in babies born early (less than 32 weeks of pregnancy or weighing less than 1,500 grams) because Cordcare Gel is more likely to cause chemical skin burns or methemoglobinemia in babies born early.

3. HOW TO USE CORDCARE GEL
• Wash your hands before and after each use with soap and clean water.
• Clean the umbilical cord stump and the skin around the base of the umbilical cord with a dry cloth prior to applying Cordcare Gel. Use enough gel to cover the freshly cut umbilical cord stump and the skin around the base of the umbilical cord within 24 hours after birth.
• Do not use Cordcare Gel in combination with any other product. Do not cover the umbilical cord stump with tight dressings.

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, Cordcare Gel can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your health care provider.
Reporting of side effects
If you get any side effects, talk to your healthcare provider. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly to Fidson Healthcare Plc. By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.

5. HOW TO STORE CORDCARE GEL
Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after ‘Exp. Date’ used for expiry date. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Store below 30°C, in a dry place.
Do not throw away any medicine via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
