COMPOSITION:
Each 10 mL of the mixture contains:

Magnesium Carbonate (Light) 500 mg
Magnesium Trisilicate 500 mg
Sodium Bicarbonate 500 mg

PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A11.4.1 Acid Neutralizers.

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Magnesium Trisilicate is a relatively weak, nonsystemic antacid and is an effective gastrointestinal adsorbent. The antacid action is exerted slowly, but is prolonged. Magnesium Trisilicate reacts with gastric contents to form a gelatinous Silicon Dioxide (which is said to protect ulcerated mucosal surfaces and promotes healing) and Magnesium Chloride. (Goodman & Gilman 7th Edition). Magnesium Carbonate light appears to be an excellent antacid under clinical conditions. It is converted into Magnesium Chloride and Carbon Dioxide in the stomach.
The Magnesium salts exert a neutralising action and are converted into Magnesium Hydroxide.
Sodium Bicarbonate is highly soluble and exerts an immediate and rapid antacid action in the stomach with the liberation of Carbon Dioxide. Its action is of short duration as any excess rapidly enters the intestine. (Goodman & Gilman 7th Edition).

INDICATIONS:
Magnesium Trisilicate Mixture acts as an antacid and is useful in the treatment of: Dyspepsia, Peptic Ulceration, Gastritis, Oesophageal Reflux and Heartburn, Flatulence, Hyperacidity.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
There are no absolute contra-indications.

WARNINGS:
Prolonged use of Magnesium Trisilicate can cause development of a siliceous calculus.
This product may impair the absorption of tetracyclines, digoxin and oral iron preparations and consequently these products should not be used in conjunction with this antacid preparation.

DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Shake the bottle before use.
Children: 1 medicine measure (5,0 mL).
Adults: 2 – 4 medicine measures (10,0 mL – 20,0 mL).

Take recommended dose three times daily one hour before meals. If no relief is obtained with the recommended dosage, a doctor should be consulted.

SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
The principle side-effect of Magnesium Trisilicate is the laxation caused by high doses.
Hypermagnesaemia and systemic toxicity can occur in patients with renal insufficiency.
Sodium Bicarbonate in moderate amounts can result in systemic volume expansion with resulting increase in blood pressure. This is hazardous to persons with renal insufficiency and incipient or active hypertension or cardiac failure. Alkalosis may occur with excessive use because of the Sodium Bicarbonate content.

KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT:
Treatment should be symptomatic.

CONDITIONS OF REGISTRATION:

IDENTIFICATION:
