Alcohol and Paracetamol

Alcohol and Paracetamol

We’ve all been there – after a night of partying, you wake up feeling like a truck ran over your head. Your first instinct may be to reach for that paracetamol in your cabinet to ease the pain but hold on before you pop that pill, there’s something you need to know.

Studies have shown that taking paracetamol after consuming alcohol can be harmful to your liver. The intake of alcohol alone is hepatotoxic, so you can imagine the effect of both of them. Combining alcohol and paracetamol can cause liver damage or even liver failure.

So, what’s a better way to get over a hangover, you ask?

Well, the answer may be simpler than you think. The best way to prevent a hangover is to drink in moderation, stay hydrated, and get plenty of rest. Yes, we know – it’s easier said than done, but it’s worth it for the sake of your liver.

In addition, taking a warm shower can help you feel better. If you really need a painkiller, opt for a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) instead of paracetamol. Ask your doctor for a prescription first.

Remember, the use of paracetamol as a hangover cure can mask the symptoms of a more serious condition, so it’s important to be aware of your body and seek medical attention if necessary. Your liver will thank you!
