Mannitol Infusion

Description

Mannitol is an osmotic diuretic used in forced diuresis to manage acute renal failure, cerebral edema and raised intraocular pressure. In Renal failure, it works by increasing urine production ad therby decrease fluid accumulation. It also decreases brain volume by decreasing overall water content in th brain and thereby helps reducing fluid accumulation in the brain.

How to use:

Test dose of 200mg/kg infused over 3-5mins and repeated if urine output is less than 30-50ml/hr. Adults: 0.25-2g/kg. 20% solution infused over a 30-60mins period.
